Nobody just decides to transition. You must be diagnosed. Then after an evaluation you MAY be referred to an endocrinoloogist. The endo will evaluate your health, prescribe appropriate hormone replacement therapy, monitor your progress and order lab work. The costs of hormones vary a LOT depending on:
Method of administration (pills, patches, implants, gels or injectables)
Dose
Manufacturer
Bought retail or online
Insurance or self-pay
SRS costs between $10-20,000 with one of the major surgeons. You will need 2 letters of referral for that. The Standards of Care (SOC) outline the whole process. You can download the SOC here:

My doctor prescribed my hormones without a letter from a therapist (something very few will do) and my estradiol costs $11 a month and my spironolactone costs $18 a month. Many therapists require at LEAST 3 or 4 sessions to write a letter recommend HRT
Then for a FtM transition this is the process and the cost is about $25,000 for the surgery. This does not include FFS or electrolysis or laser

For FtM a friend of mine had top surgery for $9,000 recently bottom surgery is substantially more expensive and many choose not to have it due to the crudity of the resultsHow much would a sex change cost?The whole process can run ito the hundreds of thousands of dollars. Hormones can run run anywhere from $100 to $200 dollars a month. This is in part why at least partial insurance coverage is so important. It can help to defray the cost of transition.
This doesn't even cover the cost of therapy.
