I never Wanted one, but now im quite upset and I think i do.How much does a sex change cost, and are they possible in the UK?Yes; 'sex change' treatment IS available in the UK, and the NHS WILL fund it (in most cases; local PCTs hold the pursestrings, and their criteria vary).

If you want to pay for it yourself, expect to pay upwards of 25,000 for the whole treatment. The surgery alone costs between 8000 and 10,500 on average. How much does a sex change cost, and are they possible in the UK?yes..

The best advice you will get is that you should talk to a doctor about this, who will, if you are serious, refer you to a psychiatrist. The psychiatrist will, in turn assess you for a year or so, before taking serious steps and make this happen for real. If you are genuinely serious and understand just what this involves and what a huge step it is to take, you can have this procedure done for free under the NHS system in the UK. Make no mistake, this will not happen if you are only considering it because something has recently upset you. If you do it, the medical assessment team will make sure that you are in this for the long term - and this will mean at least a year of consultations, medications, living as a woman (dressing, etc) before you even get near an operating table.

You can pay privately by going overseas. But this will cost huge amounts of money, and is an irreversible procedure. Remember if you are serious that once you do this, there is no going back. Just from a sexual perspective for example, you will never be able to make love to a woman again, and there is a real chance you may not even be able to experience orgasm ever again. Not to mention the huge psychological changes and life-style changes to be made and adjusted to.

I would say that if you never wanted a sex change, and now only do because you are upset, then this procedure will not make you happy, and is not addressing your true problems. It seems to me that there is something else in your life that is making you miserable. I would consider changing or addressing this first.

Whatever you decide, good luck and be happy, and always follow your heart. How much does a sex change cost, and are they possible in the UK?im not sure if they do that in the UK or not. but they do it in the states. im guessing around $20,000 somewhere in there. also.....

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20081027145432AA0h73x%26amp;r=wHow much does a sex change cost, and are they possible in the UK?Yes it is possible, and the NHS will sometimes pay for it, though this is not guaranteed. The decision for the NHS to fund it hinges on your mental health, as the NHS has to be satisfies of a %26quot;clinical need%26quot; before funding any surgery. So it may be that a private procedure may be necessary.

The cost according to a story in the Scotsman, was around 9,000 ten years ago.

see your GP first, and he/she will refer you to a physciatrist who will assess you (its standard).

you will then be encouraged to live life as a woman (e.g dress like a woman, behave like a woman), before being offered hormones to change your voice and encourage boobs to grow. once you have completed this course you can then have a genital change.

you will need to speak to your GP about the costs as they vary so much, but they are expensive and are never done on the NHS.

good luck! xxx
